Overview
These were the first speakers I build on my own, age 12. Between these, my very first speakers, and some failed attempts, I learnt a lot about general electronics. They were made with components bought at Maplin and followed some general loudspeaker building guidelines and lots of trial and improvement. I learnt about amplifiers, power supplies, basic wiring, soldering, how speakers work and crossover filter networks. This stereo set that I made sounded decent and were used for years after. But more importantly, it sparked my interest and set me on my way to learn all about speakers and build more and better sets.
These began as active speakers, with a 40 W amplifier module and volume control inside. Over time I tried different configurations and ended up removing the amplifier and converting them to passive speakers, for use with external amplifiers.
